Madrasah of Muhammad Rahimkhan

Madrasah of Muhammad Rahimkhan is another unique madrasah in Khiva. It was built in 1876. It is one of the largest in the territory of Central Asia.

The madrasah is a two-storied building with a high entrance portal. The courtyard of the madrasah is quadruple, with small towers in the corners. Also inside are 76 hujras. In the madrasah there is a “darskhona” - a study part, winter and summer mosques, as well as a rich library.

In the madrasah of Muhammad Rahimkhan not only religion and the Koran were taught, but secular sciences were also studied: mathematics, astronomy, geography. Along with the study of various sciences and theology, the students of the madrasah composed poems, held disputes.
